My Thoughts 

Wow this book ruined me!!! In a good way of course. This was straight up good writing t by Shanora Williams.

In this book we meet Ivy Hill, talking to her therapist Marriott who, reveals in their session something that Ivy had wanted for years, a name....Lola Maxwell (the woman who destroyed her life). With Ivy's  obsessive behaviour, this revelation set off a series of events.

Lola Maxwell has everything, a wonderful husband Corey, a beautiful home and money to burn. In seeking revenge, Ivy infiltrates Lola's life and quickly befriends her . But is Ivy the enemy or the victim?? You really need to get to the end... You will be shook.

Full of twists and epic turns, this book had me on edge. I highly recommend this.

My Thoughts

Amazing legal drama....

In Next of Kin we meet Leila Syed, a successful businesswoman who seemed to have it all. Except children. She and her husband Will had been trying unsuccessfully for years ad that put a strain on her marriage, Meanwhile, her younger sister had a beautiful three year old named Max who Leila loved as her own.

One morning after being asked to drop off Max to nursery, a quick stop at the office turned Leila's world upside down as she forgot Max in her car. He died, and now Leila is facing serious prison time. Was it an accident? Or murder? This book takes us on a wild ride, where the secrets when revealed would make your jaw drop.

I am so glad this came available on Libby for me to be able to finish it. I plan to look for more books by this author.

My Thoughts

This book was action packed from beginning to end. This is my first time reading this author and it definitely would not be the last.

In 'The Chain' we meet teenager Kylie, daughter of cancer survivor Rachel, who has been kidnapped by an unknown couple. For Kylie to be returned safely Rachel has to first pay the ransom and continue The Chain by kidnapping another child. Left with no choice Rachel, sets down a dangerous path which ended up consuming her.

Haunted by THE CHAIN Rachel did not rest until she figured out who was behind this sinister crime organisation. The results are even more shocking. The background is even more jaw dropping.

I figured out who was behind the chain a little before it was revealed but it didn't make the revelation less impactful I think. This was a very well written book.

Book Review: Death in the Dry River By Lisa Allen-Agostini

My Thoughts

A short book but very entertaining and well written. In this book we follow Constable Johnson Sonny Stone, a police officer in early 20th century Trinidad, who stumbles upon a dead body in the Dry River which is near his home. There is one thing though Sonny has been suspended for insubordination, however that does not deter his thirst for solving puzzles as he becomes invested to solve this murder mystery.

This novella was very fast paced and I recommend it. What I liked is the history that was interwoven into the story. I wished this could be a series I liked this book a lot.

My Thoughts

Lydia is dead!!

Lydia a mixed race teen is found dead and her family is left dealing with a very big loss.

I found this book was well written. It dealt with a lot of different themes such as tragedy, grief, family relationships and regret. James was a Chinese American professor who for all his life has tried to fit into an America that did not see him as an equal. He finds love in the beautiful Marilyn, a young ambitious student, who is determined to not be like her homely mother, She wanted to become a doctor and see the world. As their forbidden romance blossomed, marriage comes and then children, Marilyn soon accepts her fate is to be a wife and mother of her three kids Nath, Lydia and Hannah.

Somehow in Lydia both James and Marilyn sees a fresh start. In Lydia, they see opportunities that they didn't have. This put immense pressure on Lydia to excel at friendships and academics. Meanwhile the other two children Nath and Hannah the youngest, were almost invisible to their parents. When Lydia died in a suspected suicide the family members all dealt with the grief in different ways....the question is did they survive??

I think this is an important book.... Very good with a lot of lessons and jaw dropping moments.

My Thoughts

FMF does it again in the sequel to the very popular Housemaid.

Millie is at a place in her life where she is settle. She has a stable boyfriend Brock and is studying. When she lands a job with the very rich Douglas Garrick, there is no way she will turn it down. As usual trouble seems to follow Millie, as she realises there is something terribly wrong in the Garrick household especially with Mrs. Wendy Garrick who is locked up daily in her room.

Millie intent, to find out what's wrong gets herself once again in a situation that could cost her everything as it could lead her to prison. Her estranged ex Enzo is back and together they embark on yet another dangerous adventure.

This was very entertaining and of course what I like best are the unexpected twists that come at the very end.

My Thoughts

This is the first book of the Le Veq series. and it follows Raimond and Sable

Sable is a character that I met in Rebel and Forbidden. It was nice reading about her story, from being a slave to the wife of Raimond Le Veq. As usual the book gave a very indepth account of the period of the end of slavery in America and the Civil War. I love how BJ in her books create hope and love among her characters in spite of the hardships of the times.

Great book as usual. Every book I have read from this author I loved them all.

My Thoughts

I have been looking forward to reading The Tenant since it came out and I can say that yet again I was not disappointed. What I appreciate about FMF books are the fact that they are fast paced and they keep you reading until the very end.

When Blake gets fired from his dream job as VP in a big company, he and his fiancé Krista decide to take in a tenant to assist with finances. After many failed interviews in walks Whitney, a young woman who they assumed would be the perfect tenant.

When Whitney moves in, things start to get strange in the apartment. Blake immediately becomes suspicious but what he discovers would leave him shook.

This book kept me on my toes to the very end and again I was not disappointed.

My Thoughts

What an emotional rollercoaster!!!! Wow, where do I begin with this review? This book painted a vivid picture of immigration to the US and the lengths people.would go for the American Dream.

In the novel we meet 12 year old Sunny,.a.bubbly girl from Guyana who dreamed of life in the USA. That dream came through but at a cost...a very painful cost. Her family, being poor and in search of a better life grabbed an "opportunity" to get ahead and this involved Sunny going to the US under an alias.

Upon reaching America, Sunny became Neena eventually Maya. Her life in the US came with abuse, drugs, homelessness and despair. In spite of the odds against her and the people who were enemies, Sunny became a strong woman.

This book deals with a number of emotional issues but that is what made me want to get to the end. I enjoyed it.

My Thoughts

This book was a very good book.

I have been seeing Abby Jimenez everywhere but I didn't think too much of it because I do not gravitate towards romance novels, I am more of a mystery/thriller reader. But Emma and Justin had me invested. I loved everything about the story, and As I usually say I am drawn to romances only if there is a story line.

Although it was part of a series this story read as a standalone so even though I had not read the first two books (which you can bet I am going to devour now) I enjoyed it. Jimenez did not only focus on the love story of Emma and Justin, I loved how she included themes of family trauma, mental illness and friendship as well.

Go get this book, this exceeded my expectations. I am now a fan.

My Thoughts

This was one of my anticipated reads for 2025, and it did not disappoint one bit. I felt every emotion under the sun with this third installment of the Skyland series. Hendrix was fierce, independent and kind. In the previous books she was the friend and rich auntie. I was very excited for her story.

As I always say, romance is never my go to genre simply because most of them never really have a storyline beyond the couple. While the relationship between Maverick and Hendrix was exceptionally written, I also loved again, how Ryan, included other themes and issues, the main one being dealing with Alzheimer's (which Hendrix's mom had) and the challenges that caregivers and family members go through dealing with that.

It was nice to read about Yasmen and Soledad again also. I really enjoyed this entire series.

My Thoughts

Since watching The Perfect Couple on Netflix, and enjoying the series, I began looking into Elin Hilderbrand's novels to give them a try and I am glad I did.

A Summer Affair is the first of the Nantucket series. In this story we meet Claire, artist, devoted wife, mother and best friend. Claire had what many would refer to as the perfect cookie cutter life. Claire's desire to help in her community led her to co chair the Summer gala for a Nantucket Children's charity alongside the powerful Lock Dixon.

Lock and Claire began working closely together and what began as admiration and professional respect, ended up in an affair, one with dire consequences. The story explores relationships of all kinds and friendships. It was a rollercoaster ride.

The story was a bit longer than necessary, with long chapters but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I will continue the series.

Book Review: Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak

My Thoughts

Why did I wait so long to read this book?? This was a very good book. When flipping through the pages when I bought this I was like brrrr why are there pictures in this? Honestly the illustrations are what made this story so great.

In Hidden Pictures we meet twenty one year old Mallory. Mallory was a recovering addict trying to start over after being clean for a while. She lands a job with Ted and Caroline Maxwell to be a nanny for.their.five year old son Teddy. While this family seems perfect, strange things begin happening as Teddy begins drawing pictures.

The pictures were becoming elaborate and seemed to be telling a very sinister story. These pictures unlock secrets that will have you shook. A gripping tale, Hidden Pictures is definitely a book to read.

Book Review: The Inmate by Freida Mc Fadden

MY THOUGHTS 

Another action packed story from the author I refer to as "The Queen of Twists" Freida Mc Fadden. In The Inmate we meet Brooke the nurse practitioner who was assigned to work at the prison that houses her ex boyfriend and father of her son Shane Nelson. Shane was accused of some heinous crimes that occurred eleven years prior and it was Brooke's testimony that made him go to jail.

As they reconnect, Brooke begins to question the events of that night. She wonders if it was indeed Shane or was she mistaken....As the mystery unfolded I was at the edge of my seat eager find out who was guilty. It was indeed as usual a surprise at the end.

Yet another hit Ms. Jenkins!!!

This book had everything. Romance, Action. History. The writing was excellent and Regan and Dr. Colton Lee's chemistry was off the chains.

My Thoughts

I loved this book. The action, the drama, the intrigue. Karin Slaughter is now a go to author for me.

Andrea thought she knew everything about her mother, Laura. After a mall visit, turned attempted robbery, Andrea discovers things about her mother that she couldn't even imagine possible. My Thoughts

Freida never disappoints me one bit. The Crash really had me on edge the entire time and in true FMF style there was an unexpected twist in the end. In this story we meet twenty three year old Tegan. Tegan is eight months pregnant for a guy she barely knows, so it seems she is destined to be a single mother. After an invitation to go spend some time with her brother Dennis, Tegan hits the road but soon crashes in the middle of a blizzard.

Hank upon discovering the crash and Tegan decides to take her home to assist her until the snowstorm blows over. His wife Polly seems kind as well, a nurse by profession, Tegan thought she was in good hands. Except everything is not as it appears with this couple. Polly has sinister plans for the young mother to be.....

This is a tale of how far some people will go to get what they want. It is Freida in her best form. I enjoyed this just like the others..

My Thoughts

Excellent!!! This book was short, but full of entertainment. 

Nick was a young and handsome professional a catch with the ladies. Lisa was the CEO of State Foods, very bright and attractive and admired by Nick, but Lisa was in a marriage that was cold. So on a business trip to Jamaica's State Foods she met the young and charming Nick who in his attempt to please, showed Lisa the best time of her life and I mean THE BEST.

After having a time of her life and unable to get Nick off her mind, when Nick visited her in New York she was eager to spend time with him. In walks Emily, young beautiful and bright and the daughter of Lisa's best friend who was like a daughter to her. After following one another on IG, imagine Nick's surprise in meeting her in person in New York. This set the stage for a romance between the two.

Nick found himself in a dilemma he is connected to both Lisa and Emily. The result was epic.

Great book if you are looking for a quick easy read....
