My Thoughts
This was a very nice YA Contemporary debut novel from a Tobagonian author Sarah Dass.
In this story we meet Reyna, a young woman who is at that point of her life where she longs for more but feels guilty about leaving her father and her commitment to "Plumeria" a hotel she inherited from her mother.
Meanwhile, childhood friend and ex boyfriend turned music superstar Aiden, having left Tobago some years before, returns with new friends, members of the music group DJ Bacchanal to spend his birthday. As they reunite old feelings surface and Reyna's life turns complicated.
I think this was a very enjoyable story, but for younger readers and lovers of YA. I always like with books from Trinidad and Tobago to see places and the culture represented in the pages. In my opinion the author did a great job capturing that.
